My husband and I started to consider fostering many years ago as my husband had been brought up with many kids going in and out of his home as his parents were child minders. However, time passed, and we had our own children but every so often we would think about fostering.
We moved house 18 months ago and I heard an advert on the radio for fostering and thought “I will stop thinking about it and get some information from the council.” I rang and spoke to lovely guy named Eddie, who then came out to see us a week later. We were really nervous, but he put us at ease quickly and gave us so much more information than we thought we would get and we decided to go for it after getting the approval from our own children who were now 8 and 11.
The process was longer than anticipated due to COVID 19 hitting just as we were starting but 12 months later, we are approved, and we have had our first placement for 8 weeks now.
The whole process was really clear, and our social worker has been super supportive. Our first placement is going really well, the little girl has just slotted into our family like she’s always been here. We absolutely love fostering and the only downside is that I wish we had done it sooner.
